Superfast broadband in Newnham

We are delighted to advise you that all the hard work has paid off and that superfast broadband is now available in the Newnham area near Aston Cantlow. Cabinet Great Alne 7 has been upgraded, meaning that properties connected to the upgraded cabinet may now be able to order the improved service. Please note that some lines that were previously connected directly to the exchange have now been routed through this cabinet so will now also be able to order faster broadband.

For residents to check which cabinet they are connected to and what speeds they might achieve, they should visit https://www.dslchecker.bt.com/. For the best results they will need to be able to enter a BT landline number for the property. If they do not have this then they can use their address, but it may be less accurate. It should be noted that customers are not restricted to buying a service from BT and that can go to any Internet Service Provider (ISP).

There are a number of different Internet Service Providers (ISPs), and it is best to check carefully as there are a wide range of packages available, with some including telephone calls and even TV options. Websites like MoneySavingExpert.com and Broadband Genie can give free, impartial advice on cheap broadband deals and provide information on which packages might be best for specific needs.

The ‘About Broadband’ section on the CSW Broadband website has lots of information about Internet Service Providers, a very useful jargon buster to help people to get through the sometimes baffling terms surrounding broadband, and lots of self-help guides so that users can get the most from the new, improved service

We need to let people know that broadband has arrived, and in order to do that we can issue your local Champion with flyers that can be distributed to the properties that are most likely to benefit from the upgrade. So that they know where to deliver the leaflets, we will give them a relevant address list. This is an important point as some premises may be too far from the exchange to benefit from the upgrade at this stage, and we don’t want to build an unreasonable expectation.

Once the cabinet has gone live, the area will turn green on both our Broadband Checker map and on our rolling 12-month plan. We will then ask your Champion/s to distribute flyers so that they can inform people of the new service.

If you do not have a local Champion, or are uncertain who they are, please contact us as a matter of urgency as it is vital that we get these messages out so that your residents can start to benefit from the improved broadband services.

We also have copy available for publication in your local parish magazine and on your parish website. If you have not already done so, please provide us with contact details so that we can make sure to hit the next deadlines.

Many thanks

Kind regards,

Gavin Tristram
